Watch out India… The Scribbler’s on her way!

This thread has almost too many annoying things to name but I will try just for all y’all.

Our favorite psycho on Pink Truth (The Scribbler) and Miss Expert of All That Is Not Gardening (Lazy Gardens) are working on a plan to annoy and irritate the women of India.  I guess stalking in the good ole US of A is simply not titillating enough for the 2 of them.  They have decided to branch out into another country.  Scribbler likes to use religion for her own manipultation and translation and Lazy is our resident expert on the Indian culture.  How in the hell, have we lived for so long without these 2 in our lives?

INDIA FLYER THREAD!

« on: Jul 30, 06:09 PM »

Reply with quoteQuote

Evening, all!!!  Thanks so much for your patience!   Group Hug

I mentioned in today’s main page thread the concept of doing up a flyer for the purposes of informing Indian women about Mary Kay.  Below is the rough draft of that flyer – I say “rough” because it may change as you offer your suggestions and tweaks!  I want this flyer to be an effective tool we can use to reach these women before Mary Kay does!

I have not decided on what I’d put across the top as an eye-catcher – I am open to suggestions on that as well – what would catch YOUR eye if you were an Indian woman and saw this?

The text is as follows:

Mary Kay Cosmetics is currently sending American representatives to India in an effort to expand its territories.  If you have loved ones at home in India, it is critical that you first educate yourself, your family members, and your friends regarding this deceptive corporation.

Is it your wish to live a virtuous life?  If you, a family member, or a friend enters into Mary Kay, Mary Kay will greatly hinder this goal.  Of the Ten Traditional Yamas, Mary Kay Corporation goes against satya (truthfulness, word and thought in conformity with facts), asteya (non-coveting or entering into debt) kshama (patience, releasing time) and arjava (honesty, straightforwardness, renouncing deception).

If you are approached by a Mary Kay consultant with promises of extra income, “free cars,” and female empowerment, do not join Mary Kay until you have first had a chance to learn the things the consultant will not tell you!  Please visit pinktruth.com – it is home to many testimonies and informative articles that will help you make the right choice.

Namaste

My resource document/web page is found here should you care to have a peek:

http://www.himalayanacademy.com/resources/books/dws/dws_mandala-13.html

Scroll down to “What are the Ten Classical Restraints?” and it will explain all ten of Hinduism’s ethical restraints.

Indian women have no idea what is about to happen in their culture, ladies.  Let’s tell ’em what Corporate won’t!   Thumbs Up

Here’s the 10, which are also by other names, found in Buddhism. It’s as embedded in India as Jesus is embedded in the Bible belt thinking.

1) ahimsa, “noninjury,” do not harm others by thought, word or deed; (can you lead someone into a situation that you know will harm them, for your own benefit. Yes, it’s done in India, but like Christians, thye know they shouldn’t be doing it.”)

2) satya, “truthfulness,” refrain from lying and betraying promises; (nuff said)

3) asteya, “nonstealing,” neither steal nor covet nor enter into debt; (In India, it’s OK to be filthy rich. If it’s your karma to be born in the path of riches, you will be rich. If you were born into the path of poverty, it’s also your karma. ACCEPT and DEAL with either as a lesson for this life.)

4) brahmacharya, “divine conduct,” control lust by remaining celibate when single, leading to faithfulness in marriage; probably not relevant

5) kshama, “patience,” restrain intolerance with people and impatience with circumstances; (this could harm the “DIN-DIN club” approach)

6) dhriti, “steadfastness,” overcome non-perseverance, fear, indecision and changeableness; (this could be turned against the Indian women)

7) daya, “compassion,” conquer callous, cruel and insensitive feelings toward all beings; (some will, some won’t, NEXT! may be suceptible to this. And one could point out that only their callousness towards the havoc they wreak in others’ lives allows these women to be successful.”

Cool arjava, “honesty,” renounce deception and wrongdoing; (ohhhhh! Gonna hurt recruiting BIG TIME)

9) mitahara, “moderate appetite,” neither eat too much, nor consume meat, fish, fowl or eggs; (can be extended to moderation in all things)

10) shaucha, “purity,” avoid impurity in body, mind and speech. (usually meant to be avoiding vulgar and obscene speech, can be extended to avoiding gossip an dlies)

Scribbler –
FAMILY in India is EVERYTHING! I would also point out in the flyer (or another)

These recruiters will try to sow the seeds of covetousness and greed in you, trying to make you unhappy with your family life and willing to place Mary Kay Cosmetics above your family, and even above Brahma himself. They will claim otherwise, of course, because they do not follow satya, but you will be expected to sacrifice family time to this company.

************
Women in India are also shrewd businesswomen, especially in the class that MK is going after. I’d tell them to ask to see the contracts they will be expected to sign, and have a trusted

Point out that they will not own their business, that unlike the sari vendor with her little shop they cannot sell their business or will it to their children, and it can be taken away from them in 30 days with no explanation. Use RBD as an example, where her mini-empire went poof, and point out that their contract may contain those same clauses.

************************
If I were going to fight like a girl on this issue and start scratching and hair-pulling, I would point out that their money will be sucked out of India and be used to enrich YET ANOTHER American company and call MKC a neo-colonial exploiter of Indian women.

I did send the letter from the main page already and the gal really appreciated it.  Her response is as follows:

Sure. I will. This is shocking. I never expected a company of this stature to be so negligent.

Thanks. I will share this. A number of homemakers in India are into multilevel marketing with Tupperware, Amway, Oriflame etc. This will be a good thing to share.

Regardless of caste, class or age, most Indian women are expected to be responsible and accountable for the invisible and unpaid work within the home.  … these women are NOT going to get much help from their husbands and mothers-in-law when they try to do the MK thing.

They WILL be expected to ask their father’s or husband’s permission to join, to go to meetings, to buy inventory, etc. And if they try the “forgiveness is easier than permission” route, they risk being beaten … even to death. Keeping the wife in line by beating her is technically illegal, but almost never prosecuted or even reported.

This is a cultural train-wreck in the making.

Thought I’d throw this in:

In India, there is a stigma concerning blue sapphires.  Check out the following links and scroll down to the descriptions for blue sapphires.

I’m sure this will affect the star program.

Embrace Freedom, I got a kick out of this line from the second article:

“Real emeralds can be determined by holding them for some time before the eyes.  A fake stone will impart a hot or irritable sensation to the eyes.”

If that applies to all gemstones, there’s going to be a lot of eye irritation going on in the star program!   Too Funny

Lazy Gardens, thank you for posting all ten of the yamas so others can see them.  You’ve provided some really appropriate and hard-hitting commentary – it would be a good thing to do up two or three flyers (each with different wording) because everyone reacts to different things.

I tell you what, though – I think we’ve discovered a real sticking point here.  What virtuous Indian woman would align themselves with a company that completely tramples all over her beliefs and family?

Oooh!  I wonder if listing a few lines of the Consultant Agreement on the flyer would be appropriate?  It could be worked into your flyer text regarding having women go over the contract with a trusted friend – unrushed!

I have not forgotten about this, ladies!   Yay

I still want to get two or three flyers designed for our target audience.  This will happen no later than the end of next week – things have been excessively busy in the Scrib’s corner of the world; but we’ll make this happen and see it through.

In the meantime, PT cards all the way!   Thumbs Up

    I find this amusing.

MK Corporate has been working with authorities and business leaders in India for YEARS and they are making the marketing plan one that fits in with their cultural values. The home-party system that works (or not) so well in America will NOT be mimicked in the MK India plan.

I’ve spoken with several directors who are planning to recruit in India (including my own).

Some key points from their marketing plan:

    1. Each new consultant who wishes to go into DIQ (ie: a pre-DIQ program) must order each month for 6 months a specific amount (I think we calculated it to be between $35-50) before she can go into qualification to be a Director.

    2. Qualification for Directorship is different also…cannot remember the exact details right now (they are being mailed to me, will fill in gaps later)…but essentially the plan prevents them from “buying” their Directorship in ways the USA plan does not. It also prevents a Director from relying solely on her recruits or recruits/recruits for staying in quals or even maintaining directorship. Bottom Line, DIQs and Directors MUST WORK (ie: sell the products).

These elements fit perfectly into the Indian worldview. First of all, most Indian women are not “extravagant” people in the way American women are. I don’t want to call them “cheap” but let’s just say they are not given to financial “excess.” The relatively low amounts to remain active (the $35-50) is appropriately set given the spending patterns of women in the cities MK will launch in.

Also their total DIQ program is longer, meshing with the values of patience and gradual ascents to success that are inherent in Indian culture. You will NOT see slogans or exhortations to the Indian MK sales-force to “Do It Quick!” The marketing plan rewards them for consistency and longevity.

Ultimately, I believe encouraging a potential Indian consultant to visit PT will backfire, because their marketing plan essentially takes the main complaints of the US plan and improves and/or fixes them. They will be unable to frontload and utilize the work of others in order to be individually rewarded. So many of the things they see US former consultants complaining about will NOT BE A FACTOR in their OWN PLAN! In fact the opposite will be true!

The marketing plan for India is absolutely BRILLIANT and quite frankly I wish they would implement some of it HERE!

  2. MKRealist said

I’m actually a little surprised that TC would permit such erroneous information to be bandied about on her site. Surely with all her “sources” she could have at least given them the ACTUAL INDIAN MK MARKETING PLAN for them to critique instead of all of these assumptions that the US plan will be what the Indian women will be presented with.

No doubt PTrs will find fault with any and everything MK puts forth, but they could at LEAST criticize the right plan, instead of making themselves look like IDIOTS by critiquing elements that won’t even be issues for Indian consultants!

Hmm…maybe TC is slipping…she’s certainly off her game in this one.

  3. Me said

MKR, you know Tracy believes that whatever she says is true, and what she doesn’t know as fact, she assumes (and we all know what that does to you). She throws a tidbit of info out there and all the other idiots go into a feeding frenzy to see who can look like the most intelligent by quoting this and citing that. I love it that you have shown this time they ALL look like morons.

  4. foreverpink said

I think that PTers should perfect their US approach before they start trying to go to other countries with hopes of ruining MK. These are the same women who did not even make a ripple in the water at Seminar this year. Not one PT card or protest was spotted, but yet they plan to take on India?

And just for the record, I am not impressed with how they throw around their cultural terms. That does not make one an expert on anything.

And who are they going to give those flyers to? Are they just going to hand them out to women who look like they are of Indian heritage? They just cant get away from warm chattering can they?

One PTer says “If I were going to fight like a girl on this issue and start scratching and hair-pulling, I would point out that their money will be sucked out of India and be used to enrich YET ANOTHER American company and call MKC a neo-colonial exploiter of Indian women.”
How patriotic of her! Does she suggest that they should use the hatred that some cultures have for American ways as a means to further their cause? I am sure that those of us who have loved ones stationed in war torn areas would love that sentiment.

Another writes “What virtuous Indian woman would align themselves with a company that completely tramples all over her beliefs and family?”
Do they really think that Mary Kay would go into this venture without all its ducks in a row? I am sure that MKC has taken into account all of the religious customs and cultural differences that come with an endeavor such as this. ESPECIALLY in regard to women. But once again, Tracy has encouraged such arrogance with her followers so that they have completely underestimated their opponent. This is why all of their “missions” will fail.
Not to mention that their plans are just plain stupid.

  5. Duped said

Foreverpink, you raise several good points, the main one being this:

“These are the same women who did not even make a ripple in the water at Seminar this year. Not one PT card or protest was spotted, but yet they plan to take on India?”

You hit the nail right on the head with this comment. I would wager a significant amount of money that maybe, and this is a big maybe, one or two of the hardcores will actually present a flyer of sorts, however, it will not make many rounds. It is a lot of Internet Tough Talk, but when the cards are on the table, there is nothing but fluff behind it.

It is so easy to be brave and brazen when you are hiding behind a silly nickname and a computer monitor. It takes a different kind of courage to actually get out of the safe zone of the Internet and take it to the streets. This is a grand plan they have, but it will fizzle as surely as everyone commenting on this topic will fizzle.

As for India, I cannot comment. I do not know what MKC has planned, but it would be absolutely ignorant of them to not take into consideration the huge cultural differences between North America and the Middle East. Now, I am not a fan of MKC itself, however it is a Corporation and a Corporate business worth any of its salt knows to test the market first before committing. I am sure they have done just that. If not, then they are bigger fools than even PT makes them out to be. I am sure they are not. (I still can’t believe I am finding myself defending them here…eek).

As for TC letting the comments go through – let’s see, she is dropping off on readership, isn’t she? Well, this will certainly stir the pot amongst her loyal crew and get them commenting again. It is all selective perception, she chooses not to see it in favour of the rising hits on her site.

    It is pathetic, all around.

  6. PC said

I find this interesting. One of the women on the PinkLighthouse forum is married to an Indian, and she knows more about this than I do. (and probably much more about it than that idiot, Lazy Gardens).
We write a blog on intercultural marriage. I’ll ask her, maybe she’d be interested in doing a post about Indian religious/cultural values, and how this might effect a MLM plan there.
(Duh was kind enough to give us a link! 🙂 it’s in the sidebar)

  7. Baroness said

    Thanks for the link! 🙂

Oh heavens. As if I needed a reminder why I don’t read certain things. What a bunch of hooey. My in-laws are devout Hindus, and though I’m not a frequent visitor to the Hindu temple (just when MIL asks usually), I’ve been very exposed to Hinduism and Indian people over the years (obviously one special one everyday :)). I’ve listened to my share of Sanskrit (understood every word, oh yeah… ha). And I still feel I have no strong grasp on Hinduism whatsoever. For those not raised in Hinduism, it would take a great deal of study (and I don’t mean reading some web page once) to start to comprehend it, much less how Hindus relate their faith to their lives, and that apply that to pursuing an MLM – for Pete’s sake! I don’t even try. Plus, they’re not even considering the very large Muslim and Christian populations of India (among others).

I can’t imagine how any of them think they know what Indian culture is like either. It differs from region to region greatly, especially concerning North India vs South.

I think my MIL would get a kick out of having to ask FIL permission for anything. I’ll give you one guess who wears the pants in almost ALL the Indian families I know (including the ones back in India). And the beating – ROTFLMAO.

Any woman not living in poverty there has servants who take care of the home and help with the children – only part of why my MIL wants to return there for retirement. She wants a daily foot massage.

btw – all the Indian women I know have blue sapphires out the wazoo (among just about every other jewel you can think of). I’ve borrowed some especially lovely matching blue sapphire and diamond earrings and necklace from MIL on more than one occasion.

MKC has been on this India thing for years. They’re not idiots, and they understand Hinduism and Indian culture way better than I do at this point. And they’ve got billions to throw at it, which they won’t have to anyway because they get all the fogged up Kaybot directors here to do it for them – see? Genius!

  8. MKRealist said

Baroness says ~ btw – all the Indian women I know have blue sapphires out the wazoo (among just about every other jewel you can think of).

They sure do! Mainly because a lot of them are mined/manufactured there. The cost for gemstones directly in India is far less than what we would pay for them Stateside.

I will be watching very closely how well the marketing plan (I just got my copy of it) does in India. As optimistic as most people are, we’ve also commented on how low-key MKC is keeping this particular launch. There hasn’t been the normal media-PR blitz we’ve seen with openings other countries. I think this too, is strategic and specific to a cultural norm. Just a guess on my part though.

  9. What What said

Now ladies, let’s not be too hard on LazyGardens. You know she probably pulled all that information about Hinduism and Indian culture from Wikipedia, which is right about everything, of course!

Mk Corporate is SMART they are not the only network marketing/dual marketing company to go overseas. It makes good financial sense and good business sense. At least the people on THIS blog and ME’s blog and PT lies are smart enough to know that even if they dont like MK or any MLM’s or network marketing companies. MK is not going to go away anytime soon and I DO think that US sales will pick up. MK corporate plans on doing more advertising and what they are doing with the Country music awards is a sharp move. Southern women love makeup and they will get their name out in not just TX but TN, MS and other southern states where the (party plan) may still be going strong.

  17. foreverpink said

I am here to tell you that MK still has a strong presence in the south. We have several strong selling units here with serveral directors in my state of Arkansas. Today a co worker found out that I sold MK and her comment was “Oh they have good products”. I left a book in the break room and I have had several orders already this week. Didnt have to beat anyone over the head to do it. I have YET to encounter someone with a question about PT in regards to my business. So Tracy and her minions better get crackin..

  18. followourflip said

I am just dumb-founded. This is like saying that since I am catholic, I probably have a shrine to Mary in my house, say the rosary daily, drink a lot of wine, go to confession with priests that molest children, and have 10 kids…..What a bunch of idiots.

  19. I am sorry but from what I have seen, PTers don’t do anything to support PT if it requires getting up and leaving the keyboard.
Some made their own PT cards (because TC said they could) and have maybe passed out a few, but it was only because they needed to go to the grocery store or walmart and happened to drop one here and there.

With all these screen names, I get so confused. Call me “special” if you like, but my brain has a hard enough time keeping track of the names of my kids!

LOL i’m talking about “know” as in the internet world. I was just jumping on the bandwagon because Daisy said she might know you. I was feeling left out, not knowing you LOLOLOL

    BITCHES!

oh yes – i meant “know in the internet world” LOL

do any of you use the chat room on PinkLighthouse?

  29. Dizzy from the Dastardly ways of Tracy said

I don’t use any chat rooms. I have an aversion to them after the PT chat……. I use yahoo and msn messenger

    BITCHES!

  30. You Ain'T No DaIsY said

yeah i just realized everyone is probably tired of chat rooms lol

Yep, we can thank the bitchfest for that!

    BITCHES!

  32. Most likely then, you two would only know me from here. I never really went to PL or the others more than a couple of times. PT was what I found first (when I joined MK just this year) and although TC didn’t really screw with me, I saw her for what she was and found me some DUH. 🙂

I do have a habit of saying I am “Catholic Lite” and belong to the “Church of St. Mattress”, so I may have mentioned that somewhere before.

  33. P.S. I like to say whatever the fuck I want to, and this is the place for that! Thanks DUH!

  34. MKRealist said

Hey, I’m a member of St. Mattress too! Occasionally I pop into Bed Pillow Baptist too. LOL!!!

Bologna-No, I am a “bad” catholic (but, aren’t they all??)
I might say catholic lite, made with splenda….

  36. tracysucks said

Followourflip — you are killing me! 🙂

And THANK GOD Baroness came by to gve us some real information — information that was sorely lacking from PT.

As a Baptist, I can assure you that I dance, drink, smoke occasionally, do not go to church 12 times a week and like to throw out a good cuss word.

Those very limited stereotypes will get you each time…
