Oh yeah, my kids know the words to the entire album and laugh their heads off. I crack up at the narrator’s voice.

Too funny-Actually I have my eyelids propped open with toothpicks. No-that wasn’t me. 12:11 p.m…I was running around doing-hhmmmm-copies-checking work-filing-stuffing folders-…breath in-aaaaahhhhh then went to get kiddies from music and had to rush again since they got out at 1:00 and I had to do meetings the rest of the afternoon.
School’s out for summer…

Krysti-well-it’s not actually the real deal year round school: on nine weeks/off three weeks…but it is kind of like it. My system started it the year I started teaching-Uh thanks-first year and they shorten the summer break-hehe…that I do not get paid for-by the way-for those that think teachers do.
I started school July 26.
Students registered Aug. 1
Students started Aug. 3.
We get 1 week off for fall break-1 week off for Thanksgiving-2 weeks off for Christmas-1 week off for spring break…We get out of school May 23…right before Memorial Day.
(author’s note: Teachers get paid a salary based on location, degree, years of experience…for so many days/contract. I have a 200 day contract a year-this includes 180 teaching days/8 inservice days/12 paid holidays-My salary can paid to me over a 10 month period or a 12 month period. I choose a 12 month period…so I get a paycheck ONCE A MONTH each month-but I don’t get paid for my time off in the summer-just spread my pay out so I will get a paycheck in the summer.
(But we all know that I work waaaaay more than that (200 days @ 8 hours a day) and spend tons of my own money on supplies for the classroom and on the children)

We have the 1 week at fall break here too. I love it. My kids go to their grandma’s most years because the college where I work does not take a fall break. Every now and then, we go on vacation when I can swing it.

Mercedes – Our system has considered the “year round” schooling like that, but has not changed to it. I am not sure if I would like that type of system or not. I totally understand the pay thing, too. My friend who is also a teacher opts for the 12 month pay schedule so she gets checks in summer. She usually takes on a summer job teaching summer school as well. I definitely think teachers are underpaid and know that a lot of them do spend their own money on supplies. It’s sad to me that this is the case. For some kids their teacher(s) are all they have and most teachers go above and beyond the call of duty.

Basically, Senchik said that she and some friends are going on a road trip in Russia and the surrounding areas but are having trouble agreeing on a route. She was wondering if anyone with experience or knowledge of the country could offer some suggestions.
I simply replied that I have never been in Russia so I probably can not be of much help. I also wished them good luck and a fun trip.
