Tracy has unleashed her bitch again on Pink Truth

Ironically enough, this post was there just before Tracy’s rant about trolls and them advertising MLM’s.  Now remember gals, it’s offensive when other people advertise MLM’s but NOT when Tracy does it.  Try and keep up nimrods… Tracy isn’t going to keep being so nice everytime one of you idiots makes a valid point.

MLM’s advertised on the right hand side of Pink Truth? 21 Hours, 30 Minutes ago Karma: 1  Karma+ Karma-
Why is there an advertisement to become an arbonne consultnat on the right hand side of the Pink Truth home page? Isn’t a little offensive to us to have advertisements like that when that is not what we stand for?

Well I don’t know if I’d call it offensive….

We have Google ads which help pay for the cost of running the site. I have some control over the ads, but it is very limited. The ads are based upon keywords shown on the site – Since we often have “MLM” and similar words on the site, the advertisements for those things come up.

I can block a particular advertiser, but there are hundreds waiting in line to take their place, so it would be an exercise in futility.

Unfortunately, Google ads have been the only thing that’s generated any money to pay for the cost of the site (hosting, software, tech support, legal costs, etc). People have suggested other things, but none have generated any actual money. The Google ads themselves don’t even pay for all the costs of the site, but they’re a start.

So until money is generated another way, the ads are staying and I have to count on the good judgment of our members to not get involved in another MLM.

You’re right, I need to leave my attitude at the door (but maybe that’s not totally a good idea?) I’m still trying to figure out what I should keep from what I learned and what I need to burn.

Who said you should leave your attitude at the door? I just explained to you why the ads are there. It’s simple economics.

    TC says:

“Well, I don’t know if I would call it offensive…”

    Um. I am confused.

The whole POINT of PT is to rant about MLMs.

I would pay someone a dollar if they started a post about they joined another MLM because of clicking on a Google ad and lost money on it – and blamed TC for having the ads on the site. I can see it now:

“I thought it MUST be legit because it was on this site! I TRUSTED TC and now I am out $7000 from Arbonne because of PT! It’s all TC’s fault! I’m gonna sue!!”

    ROTFLMAO

  2. MKShay said

Or even if someone started a thread about what kind of liability PT/TC has if someone clicks on those ads and joins some MLM. Having them on the site makes them seem to be endorsed by PT/TC, do they not? And PT is not about Arbonne or other MLMs primarily, so maybe a newbie would think that TC is kind enough to advertise “better” companies on her site.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…..makes ya think…..

  3. MKShay said

    Of course, I can’t do it, because I am banned….I am a bad girl…:D

You don’t think her lawyer writes letters threatening to sue Melissa for free, do you?

And tech support is Nick, right? So is she his sugar momma? 🙂

  8. pppj said

    oh, the marvelous nick……..

  9. Dana said

By the way, Tracy…… thanks for giving us something to talk about! Is there anyone you’re planning on banning for having an opinion soon? It would be good. I can use the diversion from work…..

Isn’t it the best? She is counting on the ‘good judgement’ of women not to get sucked up into MLM that already got sucked up into MLM? Isn’t that like holding AA meetings at the bar? Maybe, maybe not.

Her whining never gets old though. I can almost here the violins playing in the background. Boo hoo hoo… it just costs me soooo much. Pass a tissue and click an ad.

  11. foreverpink said

That says it all..she just justified the same behavior that she ripped the “trolls” apart for. But it is her doing it so I guess its ok. She just talked about how she is sick of posters trying to sneak in advertisements for their MLM’s.. but what does she call the ads? Just because they help pay for the site? Isnt that still helping out an MLM in some way? isnt it still advertisment?
All of her little followers wrote in shamlessly apologizing about the fact that they still use XYZ product from an MLM and she basically told them that they should not be using them. But dont her ads promote people buying from MLM’s and maybe even joining them?

I would not be surprised if she retracted those statements because she has got to know that it makes her look like she is contradiciting herself.

But she probably thinks people are so willing to fit in that no one will confront her about it. I wish someone had the balls to. Everyone that does have the nerve to question her has been banned or their post are removed.

Listen up all you PTers..grow some balls and ask Tracy how the *($! can she justify those ads, when she basically told all of you that you better not even mention an MLM, much less use a product from one.

If she is so against everything that is MLM she would go out of her way to not have their ads on her site. A penny earned for any MLM should be one penny too much..right Tracy? So while she helps them find customers or team members by having those ads, those same MLM’s will throw her a few pennies to help fund her crusade against them. That’s just crazy..but its simple economics like she says, and that makes it ok.
    Yeah right!

She may as well allow a Mary Kay ad for that matter. Hey TC find another way to float your sight, I promise you will gain much more respect and you wont come off looking like a raging hypocrite. What ever happended to the Pink Truth T-shirts or the Pink Truth business cards? Did no one buy them?

    TC is truely crazy IMO

  12. Duh said

Another opportunity for Tracy to whine about not making any money to, er, “pay for the site”. Next question, how much does the site cost? Answer: NONE OF YOUR GOD DAMN BUSINESS!!

She could EASILY run that site for next to nothing. It’s her own fault if it costs a lot. How exactly is chat helping to get the word out about Mary Kay? I use the same chat application, and mine is free. She chose the one with all the fancy crap, and then expects someone else to pay for it. She’s the one who decided to revamp the site. So she expects to get paid for making that decision?

So Tracy is basically admitting here that if there was a way to make money without advertising MLM she would do it. Since there’s not, she’s perfectly willing to run those ads and break her own rules about promoting MLM. Cause Tracy getting money is priority #1.

  13. unbee said

The other thing is, the ONLY way she makes money from those ads is if someone CLICKS on them… they’re not paying her otherwise.

So she is directly benefiting everytime someone DOES click on one of those MLM ads. Clearly, her readers are NOT smart enough to not click on the ads. Apparently, not smart enough to make her enough $$ to make it worth her while.

That, my friends, is some major hipocrisy.

  14. mkhonesty said

The only reason Tracy includes MLMs in Pink Truth is to give herself cover from the claim that she is only on a crusade against Mary Kay Inc.

Note the following quote from her Welcome/About Pink Truth page, “In November 2006, the site made the switch to the name “Pink Truth” to signify its commitment to information-sharing about the truth of multi-level marketing companies that prey upon women. The focus has been (and continues to be) Mary Kay Cosmetics, but other pyramid schemes and MLMs using are discussed as well.” According to ME, Tracy was also about to get sued for using the words “Mary Kay” in the MaryKaySucks.wordpress.com website, and found that MK Inc had already bought the MaryKaySucks.com domain name.

Good point about only getting paid for clicks. Obviously, she is also not making any money selling Pink Truth t-shirts or business cards either.

Also, all her calls for sales directors to show their tax returns? Tracy, we ask the same of you. Show us a balance sheet (itemized, not general “business costs” and “miscellaneous”) or quit whining about PT costing you money. That’s as bad as sales directors claiming to make big bucks without backing it up. Documentation!

  17. Classic Tracy behavior. Idiot.

  18. DUH! Why am I not in your stupid blogroll? I have been a loyal and supportive fan of your’s. Throw me some bloggy love. Mmm’k?

  19. I’m not on your blogroll either ~Sniff~

This was part of the post today (an email supposedly sent to TC):

“Please consider stopping making money off of people who are discouraged.”

Sounds like a good idea to me. 😀

BTW – how is TC pushing Sephora cosmetics any different than selling MK? Doesn’t she make a commission off of the sales? Would she sing the praises of Sephora if she didn’t?

    Just wonderin’.

  21. Dana said

By the way, the second post on the main page (about a director writing Tracy), Tracy once again has steered the comments to being “poor Tracy, spending so much money on PT…… Tracy is sacrificing so much financially to do this…..” I think I’m going to be sick.

I know of many forums that don’t cost money! If one is so into their mission and want to pursue it~it can be done for free. Oops-thinking outl loud again.

Just announced after we were out for school today for snow~school is out until Tuesday, Feb. 19 due to sickness and the flu. GREAT! Valentines on the 19th.

    Toodles

  23. Okay – her blocking certain advertisers because there are more lining up behind them waiting to advertise is an exercise in futility – it’s an endless stream. I get that – more effort that she thinks it’s worth.

But her “mission” to get people out of MLMs isn’t futile, because everyone who wants to be in is in, and there isn’t anyone else in the world who wants to sign up? Right? No endless stream?

  24. nolovelost said

TC mentions “legal expenses” when she refers to costs involved in running her website. I imagine those outweigh technical costs.

  25. BluehairedBebe said

Hey everyone! Long time no see! Wow, I thought things would have calmed down down on PT with all of us hooligans already having been banned and all…

I always did wonder about those stupid MLM google ads on PT. Pinklighthouse doesn’t have to run MLM ads to keep itself up – and it’s a wonderful site. So I guess it isn’t really necessary after all, is it!?

  26. Laura R said

PLH has google ads all over the place, even within threads. In fact, LJ was the one who initially suggested them and signed us up for them on the Pinking Shears website as an Income Producing Activity (IPA – parallel to MK intended) lol! They were also the first to go when the site was deleted as the account was in her name, as I understood.

On MKSurvivors we had to field the same criticism about the ads – that they were promoting MLM. They do go by keywords. I can’t believe you’ve missed the ads on PLH unless she’s taken them down recently.

  27. Duh said

Maybe she didn’t notice them because the owner of PL doesn’t mention them at every opportunity. LOL

How much could those ads possibly bring in? How is it worth it to make such a small amount on ads for something that the site is clearly against?

  28. BluehairedBebe said

OH! *thunks head on desk* you’re right, they are inbetween every post. But they’re in blue on blue background, so they’re easy to ignore once you’ve been there awhile. They’re not all over the front page, or around every bordering area on the main blog-front page – or did I miss that too? The ones I’ve seen say “MK 50% off”, “Blondie’s house of Beauty”, but then there are the ones advertising how to really get your MLM off the ground w/ their ‘secrets to success’. Well my foot is in my mouth!

ITA w/ Duh’s comment. I never ever click on those ads, and as a propogator of anti-MLM info, I would think LJ doesn’t really want anyone else going to those sites and reading too much either. I can’t imagine most of the ladies there clicking on them either.

  29. Laura R said

You raise a very good question, one to consider and difficult to really answer considering the moral factor (not the economic one): “how is it worth it to make such a small amount on the ads for something the site is clearly against?” I’m sitting here contemplating the depth of that question.

When we first introduced the ads on TPS, we also promoted “clicking” them, but not abusing the click factor because Google would catch on and punish somehow – that was my understanding. (ie., if the same IP clicked and clicked a hundred times a day, that would not be good)

The mindset about the ads, along with controversy, became “Mary Kay is paying for the site” when we click their ads (which they pay Google to list, I guess) and that seemed to throw some water on the fire about the ads.

I’m not sure that the income from ads is always a “small amount” especially when sites have the traffic that PT & PLH have, imo, and that may be a factor of keeping them up. LJ kept the records for TPS since it was in her name and although she offered to show me, I didn’t look at the reports so the only thing I can offer, to illustrate earnings, is what I recall from an email she sent towards the end of TPS website where she shared about a “high day” earning of $17 something. Of course, that was the highest day at that point and there were a few $10 days that month, as I recall from the mail she sent, but in the beginning, the site made that or less in a month, which she shared in another mail.

However, as traffic increased, so did revenue from the ads and we were thinking in terms of economics, as Tracy pointed out, to cover a number of things with the account. I do know the motive behind the ads is not to deliberately promote the MLM stuff (that is uncontrollable to a point), moreso, use their money to promote us.

LOL, just thinking, if this site were to have Google ads, wonder which keywords it would focus on and what kind of sites they would lead to? YIKES! With the level of traffic you get, maybe you could experiment and let us know what kind of income is generated and make a comparison that way?

    Hi, Laura R.!!!!

  31. BluehairedBebe said

Very good point LR, I don’t believe LJ has those ads there with the intent to promote the ideas on alot of those links… but I’m just sayin’. I suppose you do what you gotta do, and I’m not going to lose any sleep over it. I will say that it is much more inconspicuous on PLH than on PT. The ads are small-print and blend in w/ the background color or the rest of the page so that you hardly notice them. Today when I was on I paid attention to them since we’d been discussing them here, and I didn’t see any on the particular thread I was in that promoted joining an MLM – just ones like I mentioned above (no direct links to Arbonne, etc.). Maybe TC could at least try to disguise it like this?? She could, but that would mean less green to feed the mean. haha.

  32. Duh said

I was actually thinking about putting up ads here just to see how much they generated and post the results. WordPress doesn’t allow them on this kind of blog though.

BTW, I’d donate the money to a good cause. Probably Pink Truth. And I’d buy one of those fancy fridge magnets.
